Hahah, entirely understandable. Aside from a decent-ish expansion of the core Generations story, and a bunch of voice-acting from the TNG cast, it isn't exactly a great game. Gameplay is rough, and the game itself is very, very difficult with regard to know what and where to do.
Here's a no-commentary play-through someone did on YouTube a while back that I watch from time-to-time... Part 1: https://youtu.be/OL6HM2bxusQ Part 2: https://youtu.be/g9ErrVswicY Part 3: https://youtu.be/T_RYH4RyNXs Part 4: https://youtu.be/QSNnxJPwdsM Part 5: https://youtu.be/LtNo3P_Q7F4 Part 6: https://youtu.be/fSW035dD_YE (Features Chodak) Part 7: https://youtu.be/OVUmgRGWPHU Part 8: https://youtu.be/w-xukqs0j2k Part 9: https://youtu.be/MnXtkX0FemI Part 10: https://youtu.be/9pmdb52Ix24 Part 11: https://youtu.be/YX-Mr0-OQic ...and I think there are additional videos he's put out for winng/losing the game, because back then, you could actually lose games in a meaningful way. ;)

The Chodak are in 'BOTH' games actually. ;) Microprose, the company that made both games, would put the Chodak in all of the Star Trek games they made. The Chodak were also in Birth of the Federation, which was a 4x Star Trek Game.

@raikon achaea I bought STO when it came out in the way back, and just didn’t quite enjoy it then. I’ve tried to re-visit, as I know it’s a very different game, but still just haven’t been able to really find a connection to it. But, it seems cool enough, and has a lot of interested content. …and no worries about “hijacking” the thread, I adore Trek games, and am always interested in talking about them, and the experiences other people have had while playing them. Klingon Academy and the Starlfeet Academy games were neat, in the First-Person piloting of ships way, and they sometimes had great cutscenes and story; IE, with General Chang making his triumphant return on screen. Hah! I’m surprised you know about the Generations game; it’s one of those niche titles that seems to have been forgotten by so many. While I agree, it’s not a great game, I still love the expansion of the Generations story, especially with regard to including the Chodak, who are my all-time favorite beta-canon species. I think if STO were to do a Chodak expansion at some point, it would be all the impetus I need in order to give the game another shot; that’s how much I enjoy the Chodak as a species and race. |

@raikon achaea, hah, I still play through A Final Unity on DOSBox from time to time. It's such a fantastic story, and having the whole cast of TNG provide the voices is just wonderful. It really is a classic. I'm unfamiliar with Judgement Rites though, I'll have to look it up. Always looking to add a new or undiscovered Trek game to my archive.
@Shirik Lektar, Elite Force is a great stand-alone FPS, but it's also a great Trek game, with a surprisingly fun story. EF2 continues some of the that story, bringing back a lot of the characters from EF1, just you get to be assigned to the Enterprise-E instead of the Voyager. Check it out sometime if you can, I think you can get it free from MyAbandonware, or for a few bucks at GOG. @Greggory Griffith, I never got around to playing Legacy, but I've heard good things. I should try and give it a go one of these days, especially since the four prime Captains reprise their roles, and are voice acted accordingly. As for STO, I've tried, and one of my friends is a massive STO fan, but I just find myself frustrated with the monetization practices in that game. @Cerys_Rowan, I finished my first play-through of Voyager: Across the Unknown a few months ago, and it was awesome. Such a neat game. I know they just released a bunch of DLC, and are releasing even more. I'm excited for the Delta Flyer, and for what I believe to be rumored, a revision to the USS Equinox storyline, where you might even be able to save the Equinox and have it tag along with the Voyager as a companion ship. @T'lol, yes indeed! In fact, I just said hello over in your thread! o7 |

Single player: Elite Force, Armada, and Legacy were some of my favorites, though I also remember Starfleet Command (Vol 2 was probably the best of the series).
I played STO for years, but a bad incident soured my efforts to go back to it since.

Hi, hello, ahoy!
Nice to meet you all! I am Swift (no relation to you-know-who). I am 38, male, and from the city of Philadelphia in the United States. I recently completed my submission/registration here, and will be writing the character Iryna Nakhimova, the new Assistant Chief Flight Control Officer. I was made aware of this Roleplay by a friend and fellow writer, of whom I've written with in the past, @Edward, who writes the Gregory Griffith and Scruffy LeBlanc characters. It's been a little while since I've engaged in a Star Trek Roleplay, but I have extensive experience as such. Previously, I ran/admin'd a short-lived Star Trek Roleplay called Star Trek: Uncharted Territory, where I wrote a number of NPCs, and also a pair of PCs. Before that, I wrote a pair of PCs at Star Trek: Theurgy, which is where I know @Edward from. I'm a total Star Trek geek. TNG/DS9/VOY is my bread-and-butter, DS9 being my personal favorite series, though I still have an avid appreciation of TOS and especially the TOS films, Undiscovered Country is tied for my favorite Trek film. I have played a ton of Star Trek video games in my life, A Final Unity, Elite Force, Bridge Commander, etc. etc. etc. And, you might even pick up on some of those if you read my character bio, as I have a habit of sneaking in mentions of those games and their stories. I am also a collector/reader of the Star Trek "Novelverse" as it is sometimes called, and own just under 100 novels so far, having read about 30-40 of them. I'm trying to read them in somewhat chronological order, which can be... difficult... to say the least, but they're mostly enjoyable. Outside of my status as a "Trekkie", I am also a big fan of sports, and being as I am from Philadelphia, tend to lean toward my hometown teams. Baseball is my end-all, be-all favorite sport, and given the connections of Baseball to Trek in the past, it's not uncommon for Baseball to find it's way into the lives of my Trek characters, though with regard to Iryna, Ice Hockey felt more appropriate. ;) Anyway, that's enough prattling on about myself. I look forward to getting to write with the lot of you, and hopefully getting to know you on some degree or another. Thanks for having me! |
