The Counselor Is in!

My name is Lori and I will be playing Laural Witley, the Vanguard's Chief Counselor.  I've been involved in Trek role-playing for 28 years now, all involving collaborative prose in one medium or another.  Laurie and I go way back RP wise and she was kind enough to invite me here after re-connecting with me on Facebook.  I hope my contributions will prove worthy of that level of perserverence. 

Like Laural, I have cerebral palsy and use  a wheelchair, though her chair is probably cooler than mine.  I've written a few of my Trek characters in wheelchairs before, but I've never truly explored how that impacts their ability to serve and contribute to Starfleet, so I'm looking forward to exploring that here a bit.

Also like Laural, I'm a mental health counselor in my day job, which is to provide therapy online through BetterHelp.  I love my job but love playing counselors in RP even more because RP allows me to support characters without all the added red tape. Counselors are my lovable RP rut, and admittedly, I'm often guilty of not developing my own characters enough because I'd much rather explore what makes other characters tick and support others before diving into my own.  I'm working on that and am looking forward to teaming up, but in the meantime, Laural is here to help people cope with their own traumas.

My favorite Trek shows are TNG, Voyager, Discovery (please don't come for me, lol) and Strange New Worlds.  I'm still getting through Lower Decks, Starfleet Academy and catching up on SNW.  DS9 and Enterprise are on my watch lists as at the time they aired, I wasn't watching regularly and found them hard to follow.

In addition to RP, I love Second Life and learning about medicine.  I love playing medical characters too but am less experienced there.

I'm still playing catch up, but thought it was high time I said hi properly!
