Potential Concerns

Captain Léa Chevalier.
Lieutenant Commander Shirik Lektar.

Stardate 58807.16 12h00
Location: Captain's Ready Room, Deck 01, USS Vanguard NCC-76381

***
Léa found herself rather refreshed after what had been a decent night’s sleep. The first she had had since setting out for Alpha Centauri aboard the Hypatia, and what had proven to be the false promise of another vessel’s command. And while the Ticonderoga may have been her initial prize, snatched away at the proverbial last moment, Léa had long since given up any notion that the Vanguard was little more than a consolation. In fact, it had already proven to be quite a capable ship, with a surprisingly capable crew. That sense had only been bolstered as the morning progressed, with reports coming in from the various department heads on the significant steps the crew had taken in preparing for the mission ahead.

The Kepler would be found—or, barring that, the circumstances of her disappearance.
In need of a break from all the reading, Léa had set about one of the less pressing items on her list, but one that would bring her some semblance of joy: adding a hint of a personal touch to the ready room. In this case, a painting she had replicated, framed, and hung on one of the walls. Of course, she had shown Captain sh’Orthamu’s own effects the care they deserved, but this was her space now, and she was determined to make it feel as such. Hence the painting she had selected: an oil of the dome of the Federation Capitol Building in Paris.

It was a reminder of home, of the organization she and the Vanguard served, and of the promise of peace the Federation represented. It felt like the perfect reflection of who she was and what she believed in.

Yet something was nagging at the back of her mind.

A feeling that maybe her judgment had been off, which only felt sharper now as she stood before the couch in her ready room, gazing at the painting and trying to gauge how level it was. She tilted her head from left to right, a mild look of consternation on her face as she reached out to touch the leftmost edge in an attempt to balance it, then the right edge soon after. “Hmm… no,” she remarked with a hint of annoyance, a sigh escaping her. She even took a step back, and again it seemed level. It had seemed perfect, but something inside said it was off—and that maybe so was her judgment. She was second-guessing, and she knew it.

An instant later her attention was drawn to a chime at the door, and she raised a curious eyebrow slightly higher than its companion. “Enter,” she answered, turning to face the door and whoever would pass through it. - (OOC Notes: Image of mentioned Painting -> https://i.imgur.com/2F56zsb.jpeg <-))
