Background |
Crys was one of a cluster of Shard, a crystalline lifeform. They were discovered by a Starfleet science team surveying the planet and its unusual crystal geography. The team, after initially collecting crystal samples they didn't know were life forms and causing great harm, were able to identify that these crystals are living and highly intelligent. Once communication was established, formal diplomatic contact commenced. The planet Orax is currently under review for possible Federation membership, and science and diplomatic teams are on the surface.
Crys volunteered to be removed from his cluster and journey to Earth to join Starfleet. A customized robotic suit was constructed for him so that he could interact and communicate with others. Shard are very intelligent and learn quickly, and Crys was able to complete Academy training quickly and begin his career as a Science Officer.
