Hi. My name is Heather. I've been playing in RPGs since the 90's. Mostly star Trek, but also Dungeons and Dragons. I've tried a few other games through the years. Star Trek is one of my constants. I was learning the rules to My Little Pony RPG over the summer.
When I'm not writing, I foster kittens through our local shelter and am a co-leader for my daughter's girl scout troop.
I haven't written on a forum for a while. But, one of my favorite games used to live on a forum. Hopefully, the Skills will return quickly!

Hello Heather!
That's a wonderful service you're providing, fostering kittens, and volunteering with Girl Scouts. It's nice to hear of people doing good things and making the world a better place through simple good deeds like that. Thanks for sharing!
Do you have any cats that stick around on a more permanent basis, or do you just foster?
I'm looking forward to writing with you!

Our household has 2 resident cats. Amelia is heading onto 11 years old this coming Halloween. And Mint Donut stayed with us from our first foster group earlier this year. He is just over 5 months old now. We bottle fed his litter starting when he was about 2 weeks old.
We started fostering because Amelia needed a companion but she was not keen on adopting an older cat. She was suspicious of the kittens when they first arrived and su-purr-vised them from a distance. Then as the time arrived to return the babies to the shelter, she helped my husband and daughter choose which little guy was going to stay.

Very cool! They sound sweet, and the name "Mint Donut" is hilarious. And I hear that if you're looking to bring in a companion to a cat, that usually a kitten or a younger cat is the better approach, like what you and your husband, and daughter did with Amelia.
I currently have five. lol
It started with just one; George, who was a bit of a celebrity street cat in my area, loved by all my neighbors and was being taken care of. But, we were headed into winter and everyone was worried about the little scamp, so I took him in. About a year later, like with your Amelia, I was thinking he could use a buddy, and a friend of a friend who runs a shelter out of her home, needed a place for a younger cat, so we took him in to keep George happy. He's named Mr. Wick, in honor of the movie character.
Then came Benny, who's an older cat that was living with a neighbor, but the neighbor was having some pretty severe issues with senility and dementia, so the family asked if I would be interested in taking him in, at least temporarily. I did, and Benny immediately formed a bond with George and Mr. Wick so it ended up being a permanent thing.
Then came Furiosa (aptly named because she's a ball of fury) who was another shelter take-in from a friend, and needed a home headed into the winter. And then most recently came Stannis; a childhood friend of mine, who'd lost her in a nasty break-up, got a call from his ex that she was going to drop the cat off at a shelter or just on the street because "she was bored with her" or some ****. He couldn't take her in because he had gotten another cat more recently, and his apartment only allows 1 animal, so he asked if I could take Stannis in, and I agreed.
So, yeah.

Because we adopted cats in pairs we ended up with 6 in total at one stage 😅 Down to 3 atm. With addition of 3 dogs we aren't looking into adopting anymore now and just keep the ones we got now.

When my husband and I first merged our households, we each had 2 cats. A house of 4 full-grown cats was a lot of litter box cleaning. Over time, kitties aged out with our oldest being in his 20's. We would joke that he was old enough to both vote and drink. He was very arthritic at the end, poor old man.
But, when he passed on, our daughter was only a few months old. I didn't have the energy to find Amelia a companion at that point. She's clinically and chronically anxious when I leave the house. Mint definitely helps with that now.
Mint Donut ended up with the double name due to some favorite foods. He wore a green (mint chocolate chip color) collar when he was tiny. And my daughter thought that would be a great name for him. He also has a furry donut-hole shape on his chest. Kiddo's favorite food is donuts and I thought that would be a great name for him. And since we weren't going to fight over the ideas, he got both names. McKensie was also a shortly suggested name because he has the border collie coloring of the dogs on Bluey, but naming him after a dog didn't feel right.
Our fosters right now are Whiskers and Samuel. Whiskers had a severe infection when he first entered the shelter. I've been giving eye drops, but the problem isn't going away. After his recheck last week, the vets said he's going to lose his eyes... so Friday, he goes in for that procedure. I'll have him for one more week after for recovery, then he and Samuel head out to find a new home.
The shelter put the boys together so that Samuel could bond up and have a seeing-eye job. They're both very sweet kitties and I'll be worried about them finding a home once they leave. But, I know there are great, loving people out in the world that will take good care of them in the future.
